The Upper Peninsula walleye destination, and the coldest of the regions on this page. Little Bay de Noc is a long protected arm off northern Lake Michigan that reliably makes better ice than anything in the Lower Peninsula, for the simple reason that it is much colder for much longer.

The protected shape and the northern latitude mean this bay accumulates cold earlier and holds it later than any of the southern waters. It also draws destination anglers from several states, which means a lot of people on the ice who do not know the local hazards. The Escanaba River and Ford River mouths carry current and are the usual soft spots, and the outer bay opens to Green Bay proper where wind driven ice movement is a real factor.
